SEE YOU!

SEE YOU!

It’ s time to thank you all for your comments and for the nice classmates we have had this year.
I’ve a good impression of the blog experience, but I have to admit that I haven’t had taken all the possible profit.
In my opinion, for future tasks it will be fine, if we had more subjects or points to discuss in common and from time to time have an exact date to develop a concrete matter.
I know most of us are adults, but in my case due to my schedule it is good to have a forced date.

Best wishes!

NEW YORK

NEW YORK, NEW YORK

I will explain a little bit about New York. I think all of us have his/her own idea of this city.
Last year I flew with my partner to New York. I have to recognize that, at the beginning I wanted to do another kind of trip, because I like much more the countryside and see landscape.
New York is really an amusing city. The sentence “New York never sleeps” is totally true. From the morning till late at night there is always something to do or to see. It’s incredible.
It is a multiethnic, cosmopolitan, multicultural city, etc. In one week you haven’t got enough time to visit all the places, which are offered.
Walking through the streets, you have this kind of sensation that everybody is in hurry and you can really see the businessmen/businesswomen well dressed and wearing trainers. A New Yorker explained us, that this is due the traffic jam and it is impossible to drive by car and people have to go by foot to their jobs. So, the most useful and comfortable kind of shoes are the trainers and that case.
I really don’t know how to tell you all the particularises of New York. There are too many.
Another aspect which called my attention was Times Square. It is situated in the middle of the theatres heart of New York. Originally it was known as Long Acre Square, but later it was changed to Times Square when in 1904 the offices of the “New York Times” were located there.
It you visit Times Square at night, it is fantastic with all the advertisements you can see at huge screens.
I only will show a little bit more of the history of the city, because I’m sure you all know the places you can visit in New York, as for example: The Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, Empire State, 5th Ave., the different destricts/quartes Bronx, Harlem, China Town, Little Italy, the cultural offers, like Musicals, library, theatres and so on….
New York is not only Manhattan. Manhattan is joined by bridges and tunnels to four other boroughs: Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. All these together make up New York. The avenues runs from north to south and the streets run fro east to west.
Downtown Manhattan, the streets go in all directions. It is the oldest part of Manhattan where the Dutch settled in the 17th century. Apart from a few foundations, no buildings remain form the Dutch. For a short time New York was called New Amsterdam. Later the English took the town form the Dutch and it became a colony of England and till today it is New York.
Finally, if you have the opportunity to travel to New York. Cash it!!!!!!!

Adoption in Russia

Last week I watched on TV, a documentary about adoption in Russia.
Two Canadian families went to Russia in order to adopt two little girls. One of the adoptions specially called my attention.
Lara is a 7 years old child; she is the number 8 of 10 children. Her mother left her husband when she was 3 years old, her father took care of her and her brothers and sisters, but unfortunately the father died.
Lara was welcomed together with two of his brothers by a Russian Orphanage.
Now I’m going back to the Canadian family. In the documentary you can see, how Lara was adopted by this family. Lara and the parents had only 1 hour to know each other. After that a judge decides, if Lara can be adopted by this couple. I find very cruel the way the judge asked Lara if she wanted to live with this family. She was asked about her brothers. She had to take the decision, if she wanted to stay in the orphanage with her brothers or go with the couple.
Her answer was that she wanted to be adopted and when she become older she will come back and help her brothers. An innocent reply!
Another part of the documentary showed us the adaptation of Lara in Canada. The positive point of this story is that Lara is a nice and friendly girl, who learned the new language soon and made friends quickly.
Anyway to have a good impression of this story is that the Canadian parents decided to adopt her two brothers, too.
We don’t know if the process had success. We hope so.

THE VASE

A women and a man were strongly arguing, they were sitting in a tent situated in a desert. An old man came to the tent and heard them arguing. He looked round and pointed to a nice vase. Suddenly he caught the vase and broke it down to the ground.
He said to the couple you have to put all the pieces together. At the end of the day both had solved their problem. For dinner they were listening to a nice Turkish song.

Ann's visit

Last week, I found it was nice experience, that Ann visited our class to express her views of the US. I think what she explained was interesting and made us think that not all American people are like the impression we have from the press. Sometimes we forget that we haven’t to put all the people in same sac (it’s a Spanish expression).
Ann spoke about the situation of the emigrants in US. For example she explained that her parents or grandparents were from Norway and they weren’t allowed to speak with their children in their own language. Fortunately this has changed. She’s told us that now in the US the opposite succeeds. There are a lot of parents which only speak Spanish to their children.
My opinion is that emigrants and their children should be able to maintain their own languages and also have an interest in learning the language and the culture of the country there are currently living.
Ann spoke about other things, but I will left it for another occasion.
